It's another lovely day here, so I thought I would share another spring teacher outfit. This is one that I love because it's made up of basics that are just combined to make a new outfit. Especially during the first years of teaching, this is the way to go. While it's so fun to look for cute, unique pieces, having a mix of basics will give you way more options on any given morning. Basics are also awesome because they all go together, so there isn't much planning required. All of the pieces in this outfit are older, and I wear all of them with several other things. I've talked about this skirt before. It's the J. Crew elastic waist skirt that I love. I have this one in several colors and in both linen and wool, so I can wear some version of this skirt all year long! I've linked this season's options at the bottom of this post. The options for this season have a cute scalloped look that is really fun. This one is even machine washable and is super easy to throw on for a quick outfit at the end of the year. ![]() The shirt is another piece that I wear with all kinds of things. I love that it is a neutral color so I can wear it with bright colors. It does have a bit of a racerback cut, so I typically wear it with a cardigan or jacket. This one is a few years old, so I've linked a few other options at the bottom of this post. The final two items in this outfit are the Birkenstock shoes I've been raving about and my jean jacket that I wear way too often this time of year. I'm linking the jean jacket below. And here is the link to the shoes: click here. ![]() In closing for today's blog, I have a few things to note for those building a wardrobe: 1. Start with basics. 2. Add pieces that can go with multiple outfits. 3. Don't be afraid of recycling pieces. 4. Read labels before you buy things--if you can't easily launder it, don't buy it. When you're new to the profession and getting your finances in order, the last thing you want to have to spend money on is dry cleaning bills. (NOTE: Banana Republic has even started selling dresses that look dry clean only, but are actually machine washable!) 5. Even though I love dresses, these individual items will give you a better wardrobe. Dresses are noteworthy and can only be worn one way. Separates are the way to go when all you really need are as many outfits as possible!

Teacher Dresses, Tears, and Chai Lattes--Or the Things I Embrace During the Last Month or School!5/13/2018 ![]() "It's finally spring!" she says while cringing, hoping she didn't jinx it! I've been wearing more and more spring dresses these days, so I thought I would share one of my favorite spring teacher outfits from the last few weeks. In the picture above, I have not gone into witness protection. I was having a bad face day, but I really loved wearing this dress, so Instagram stickers to the rescue. We've had a few weeks of weird weather, but it's beginning to feel like the warmer days are here to stay. It's been an interesting few weeks in my world. The semester for grad school ended on the same day that third quarter grades were due, so I found myself exhausted, stressed, and, on one occasion, crying in my car during my planning period. It wasn't anything in particular that led to this moment, and it wasn't any kind of complete breakdown. I was just really tired, and I knew that I still had 3 assignments to complete that night and another one that was due within the week. I wasn't just tired; I was tired and knew I couldn't rest yet. I'm writing this because I think more of us need to be honest about life. It's so easy to smile and say, "Great" when someone asks how you are, but I do wonder if portraying ourselves as those who have it all together and who never miss a beat leaves others to believe that they are weirdos if they can't manage it all. May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and I'm thinking more and more about the importance of letting people know that it's normal to feel overwhelmed sometimes, and it's normal to question if you can balance all you have your plate (and it's healthy to choose to take things off of your plate sometimes too!). I've told more than a few people about my car-crying incident. Not because I wanted sympathy or even enjoyed telling the story. I told it so that they might know that all of us have moments when we just need to let our emotions have a moment. We just need to feel what we feel. So--as we head into the last part of the school year and the deadlines roll in and the exhaustion starts to set in, remember that you aren't a weirdo if you need a moment to process all the emails and student questions and meetings and whatever else goes with wrapping up a year. It doesn't mean you are weak or have chosen the wrong career or are doing something wrong if you just need to admit that sometimes it's too much. So, go ahead and take a minute to cry, then wipe the mascara, take a breath, and go back to being awesome. And maybe tell someone--so they can encourage you, check in on you tomorrow, and might be encouraged to know they aren't the only ones. Okay--now on to the fun stuff. This is one of my new favorite dresses. The thing I love most about it is that the back is an elastic waist, but the front has a more tailored look. This means I can breathe easily while looking pot together. I also love that it is eyelet, but it has a great shell underneath, so I don't have to worry about having a second layer. I'm becoming an old lady. I know this because I now have three rules for dresses I buy to wear to work: 1. Machine Washable 2. Long enough to not require much attention 3. Made of comfortable material/cut (I'm too old to feel crammed into my clothes all day.) I paired this dress with a green cardigan to add some color and threw on some wedges that are just the right height--tall enough to make me feel a bit dressed up, but low enough to make my feet happy. (I think I'll try belting it next time. I'm sure you'll be anxiously waiting to find out the outcome. :)) I'm really liking this pair of shoes. I got them at the start of the season to replace a pair I had completely worn out over the last few years. Their made by Franco Sarto--the same brand as the 2 of the other pairs that I've obsessed about on here. I think I like them because their shoes tend to be leather, made with heels that are manageable heights, and still girly. I've linked them at the bottom along with this dress and cardigan. Okay--well-there's one outfit idea. I'll try to post a few more if, like me, you still have a bit of the school year left or are looking for some outfits that might work during the first few weeks of school when it's still rather warm. Just remember to be nice to yourself and check in on the teachers around you. Carrying the burdens of students all year and handling the challenges of your own life can get heavy towards the end of a school year, even if you see the finish line of summer break up ahead. Click on the images below to check out the items from this outfit. ![]() This week was a bit unusual, so I thought I would post a few teacher outfits for warm days and testing days. We had students taking the SAT on Tuesday and the weather become really warm as the week went on. I thought I would show a few of the ways I deal with testing days and Fridays. This outfit was for testing. This time of year, is so tricky. The AC isn't turned on until it is consistently warm, so I study the weather with the dedication of a meteorologist. This day we were lucky to have mild weather, so I focused more on something comfortable and shoes that would't be loud while patrolling...I mean proctoring... While my shirt is from a season or two ago, I'm attaching a few options. Just click on the pictures below: ![]() I must say that as much as I love this shirt, it's not as flexible as I would have hoped. I like it with these grey jeans that I love (here's a link to a similar pair), but I'm not finding as many other options as I thought I would. I'm going to try it out with some skirts and shorts, so I'll keep you posted (I'm sure you will wait with bated breath!). Either way, it's so helpful to have really stretching jeans and a comfortable top for a day that is lots of sitting, walking and staring at kids. It also doesn't make sense to dress up on these days because you're not leading a class and most dress shoes are noisy if your day consists of walking among desks. I paired this with my Birkenstock sandals. You can click on the picture to the right to go to the Zappos page. I've said this before, and I'll say it again. On testing days, here are my questions about an outfit: 1. Will it adapt to unfamiliar classroom layout and temperature? 2. Will it be comfortable no matter where I end up sitting (stool, student desk, teacher desk, etc.)? 3. Will the shoes be comfortable for walking to the bathroom 3 million times, standing for long periods, and walking around a classroom? 4. Will my outfit be quiet while I'm moving around? This may seem like a lot to think about for just one day, but these days happen often enough to be worthy of a routine. And for my next trick...![]() I'm also including my Friday outfit because it's another one of those "Spring is so weird" outfits. We got an email earlier in the week warning us that it was supposed to be warm and the AC wouldn't be turned on until the weekend. So, I wanted my most summer-y school outfit. I got this linen-ish shirt from Banana Republic a few weeks ago when they sent me a coupon. I had been looking at it for a few months any time it came up in a Facebook ad, so when I got a coupon, I thought it was a good time to go for it. It was perfect for the day. The loose fit and summer material made it perfect for a day that got warmer as the day went on. Click on the picture for this shirt. Oh--and it's a hi-low, which I love, but I think you could probably also tuck it into a skirt or jeans for a bit dressier look. ![]() I paired the shirt with these Lucky Brand "super skinny" jeans. If you're like me, you are terrified of that word, especially in online shopping, but these actually fit really well, and I think they are really versatile. I switched up the rest of my outfit for the Nats game last night, and I would say that these jeans looked just as cute with my Nats shirt, baseball hat and sneakers as they did with this outfit, and I think I've also paired them with heels and a blazer. They stretch just the right amount throughout the day and return to their original, more fitted (shall we say) shape after coming out of the washer. I also really like the color. I also like them because they are high rise enough that it wasn't a pain to wear them to the ballgame or to school. And I wore my new Birks again. They still are a bit uncomfortable on one foot at the crossover point, but it was way better, and I'm thinking by the next time I wear them, it'll be no big deal. I've linked them to the picture, and I'm leaving you with a few more pictures of the outfit. In closing, on hot days, be kind to yourself. It's always good to have a few sleeveless shirts that can stand a hot day...maybe even a lesson outside if it gets too bad! ![]() Hello! It's finally beginning to feel like spring around here, and I'm probably more excited than I should be. As I said in my last post, I patiently waited until after Easter to break out the spring stuff, but that was as long as I was willing to wait. When I got this dress, I wondered how often I would get to wear it since it's a spring dress with long sleeves. So, when I saw the forecast for today, I knew today was my day. Doesn't that sound like something the hero of a movie says when they're talking about something that's actually important? But still--it was a good decision. A bright green dress on one of the first warm days of spring is a good idea. This one has a few things that make it delightful: 1. It has an elastic waist. 2. While it has long sleeves, they are not heavy. 3. It's a loose fit. This dress from J. Crew Factory comes in green and navy. I love the green because I'm a firm believer that spring is a great excuse to wear all the bright colors you can find. I paired it with a belt to give it a bit more of a structured look and wore some of my favorite spring shoes. I was at DSW the other day and saw that they were selling these again this year (although in a different shade). Hooray for all! They also have these cute shoes ...that I might like better... ![]() I love these shoes because they make it through the day but still have a bit of a dressier look than flats or sandals. I've also had this belt for several years, but I'm linking a few cute options. I really like Banana Republic belts because they hold up really well. Here are three options (I finally figured out how to put the link with the picture, so just click on the image! Yay for technology!): ![]() I do have one philosophical thing to say before I go. I must say that this dress is not necessarily the most flattering for me, and I'm not exactly in peak physical condition, and I am so white it's almost like I'm translucent. But I just decided that I like this dress, it's comfortable and forgiving, and looking like a runway model isn't really a top priority for me, so I'm wearing this dress whenever I want. I think as teachers, having so many eyes on you every day, it's easy to be self conscious, but I'd say, as I've said before on here, wear what you want. As long as it is school-appropriate, wear what makes you happy. Wearing a bright green dress made me happy. So here are my spring tips for you: 1. Wear what makes you happy--within reason. 2. Once you've built a stable wardrobe that gets you through most seasons, it's fun to add in a few spring and fall items. While I wouldn't encourage these purchases in the first few years of trying to build a wardrobe, they are fun to have and fill a great space between fully warm or fully cold weather. Well--I'm off to finish up this lovely Friday! Hi! So sorry to have disappeared for so long. When I set up this new website over winter break, I felt sure that I would have no problem keeping it up while working on grad school and teaching, but I forgot about the importance of things like sleeping and folding laundry, and sleeping. :) But I'm back...at least for this one post. We'll see if I can get on here a bit more often now that the grad school semester is winding down and the end of the year is coming. Either way, I am so excited about spring arriving. I patiently waited until after Easter to break out my sandals and bright colors, but once April 2nd came, no cold weather could keep me from busting out the sandals...so my feet might have been a bit cold this week, but my heart was happy. ![]() This week was spirit week, so most of my outfits were themed, but I decided on Friday that I just wanted to wear something spring-y. I found this cute shirt on J Crew Factory's website when they were having one of those sales that are tricky for non-math types. It was one of those with 50% off plus 10% plus I had a $10 off coupon...so many steps to get a cheap shirt. But I think it was worth it. I paired it with this cardigan and jeans because it's still a bit chilly here, but I'm thinking I can also wear this shirt with jean shorts or khaki shorts over the summer. I might even tuck it into jean skirt and throw on some wedges. We'll see. Either way, the material is light and breeze and the colors are so cheery. Here are a few more images of the outfit. Along with this cute shirt, I'm wearing a pair of jeans that I love, one of my favorite cardigans and some comfy sandals. So, it was a happy day at school for me. The jeans are these Lucky Brand jeans. If you read this blog often, you've probably read more than one entry noting that I didn't really have any jeans that I was particularly fond of. I asked my stylish and clever sister where she got her jeans, and she mentioned Lucky. I thought back to when I was in junior high and got my jeans from The Buckle and all I wanted in the world was a pair of Lucky jeans with the wallet imprint on the back pocket--anyone else remember this trend?!? But when I looked on the website, I realized that a)their jeans that are on sale are affordable and b)I really liked the washes of their jeans. I will say that I'm not sure they make their jeans with body types like mine in mind, so even the mid rise isn't quite as high as I would like it to be. But overall, I find them comfy, cute and useful. I still like these from The Gap best, but since I can't wear the same pair of jeans every day, these are a nice option for when my favorites are in the laundry pile. The cardigan is one of those things I bought on a whim last year, and then when it came in the mail, I danced around the room hugging it because it was so perfect...okay...not really, but I do love it. It's really lightweight and perfect for spring/summer when the AC is blowing full-force, but you don't want to wear a coat in May. Banana Republic still has them for sale, just not in navy. If you're looking for a basic sweater that can be a grab-while-you-run-out-the-door staple, this is it. I don't know about other teachers, but I always have a navy cardigan, a black cardigan, and a beige cardigan in my closet so that I can have an extra layer for any outfit. Here are a few other basic cardigans that might work if you (unlike me) need to add some to your wardrobe: 1st: A super-soft Banana Republic option 2nd: A basic (in a good way) Banana option 3rd: As always, a reliable J. Crew Factory option The shoes are a pair of Birkenstocks I got from Zappos. I will be honest and say that the ankle crossover design did leave a bit of a blister, but I'm not sure if this is the usual thing that happens when you wear a new pair of shoes or a design problem. I'll let you know. Even with this small problem, I still like these. And I think they'll work well with skirts, jeans, dresses and shorts all summer long. We'll see! Here's a closer look. Okay--I'm off to tackle my to-do list. Here's hoping I find my way on here more often!
![]() Hey there! The start of the semester slapped me around a bit, but I'm back. This week is spirit week at school, so instead of showing you my tie-dye day outfit or my teacher attempt at country day, I thought I'd go back and show some of my most teacher-y outfits I missed the last few weeks. Today is installment #1. Today's outfit is brought to you by my love of layers and my determination to wear cute heels every now and then. I've been trying to find ways to do a sweater/silk shirt layering thing for a while, but this was my best attempt so far. I bought this short sweater thinking I would wear it with some cute high waist jeans, but that never really worked out, so then I realized it might work with something longer layered underneath. I'm irrationally committed to pleated shirts of all kinds, so I snatched up this tank top in the summer with high hopes of it pairing with all kinds of things. The pants in this look are, of course, my favorite Banana Republic pants, and the shoes are my favorite part. I bought these probably 6 years ago, and I only get to wear them maybe 3 times a year because I either forget I own them or they don't work with my outfit. I have a few other pairs of shoes that suffer a similar fate. I love them, I want to wear them daily, but they just require a rather specific outfit. So any time I'm wearing neutral colors, I kind of go hunting for my long-lost brightly-colored friends. I know it may seem ridiculous to own a pair of shoes you only wear a few times a year, but I have some rationalizing to do on this topic. ![]() Here's how I justify it: 1. I'm at an age when my feet aren't changing, and I have a job that doesn't wear out my shoes, so I can keep shoes forever. 2. If I only buy one fun pair of shoes every three or four years, and I'm buying them from discount shoe stores or when they are on sale, it's really a rather small part of my wardrobe budget that I'm spending. 3. One or two really unique pairs of shoes just make the dreary months of winter or the long days before summer break more fun. And if you can afford it, that fun pair of shoes could just be the whimsy you need on a long day during a long month of school. So--if you can, spend a little bit of money on an irrational pair of shoes that will brighten your day every now and then. Here are a few options for recreating this outfit. Loft has a few shirts that are already layered, so there's one less step to getting ready in the morning. Here's a cute one. And here's another option. The pants are these, my current favorites. Here are a few cute shoe options. I love these mustard yellow ones. And here's a cute red pair. And a fancy pair. And a bright pair. So, I hope that helps add some fun to your mid-winter outfitting!
Say, "Hello!" to my awesome friend Lindsay! I've had the pleasure of working with her for a while now, and every time she comes down my hallway during the passing periods I always tell her how much I love her outfit. So it only made sense to interview her for this blog. I wanted to talk to her about how she came to find her teacher style and how she puts her outfits together. The thing I most love about her style is how she layers things...and her shoes...I love her shoes. Here are a couple of moments from our conversation about teacher fashion and developing a "grown-up" wardrobe: So how does Lindsay put together her outfits? She starts by thinking about textures. Lindsay said she really likes to mix textures (cotton, woven, leather, etc.) through layering, especially since her classroom tends to be on the colder side of things. Lindsay has avoided the "cardigan every day" trap that I so easily fall into by building up a wardrobe of layers that work together--sweaters, blazers, long sleeve shirts, etc. And whether it's a sweater and mid-length pleated skirt with ankle boots or jeans, lace-up suede shoes and a sweater, she always has a put-together, unique and teacher-friendly style. She also noted that she uses cute outfits as a way to brace for harder days. When she knows a day might be rough or she might have to deal with a challenging situation, she will face it with a great outfit. The temptation is to hide out in comfy clothes on days like that, but we both agreed that there's something about feeling put together that makes you feel more prepared to face the day. We also talked about who helped to shape the way we thought about fashion. Lindsay quickly responded that her mom is someone she looks up to. She is "cute, but not in a traditional way. She puts a spin on it. She'll mix vintage pieces with department store pieces." She talked about the way her mom took her shopping to help her build her work wardrobe when she was first getting started. They headed to a local version of TJ Maxx (but better), and she was able to find really great designer clothes at a price that fit her budget. She said she still has items from that shopping trip. She said her mom taught her to look past trendy items of the day and choose pieces that were comfortable and would work once the trends had changed. As Lindsay talked about her mom, and I thought about some of her outfits that I most admired, I could see the influence. Okay--I'm off to my next adventure! Thanks again to Lindsay for letting me snap a few pictures and pick her brain! ![]() ![]() It's Monday! (You can tell it's a Monday by the sloppy bag sitting on the bench in the background of this picture.) And today was one of the best teacher Mondays because we had a two-hour early release from school. As a teacher, there's something exhilarating about finding out during 2nd period that you just received two free hours! The students cheered when I told them. But on to other things that make me happy! I knew today was going to be another cold day, and the weather gang is predicting that things are going to warm up this week, so I decided to take advantage of a cold day by wearing some of my favorite layers. My co-workers start to notice a trend around this time of year. I love any sweater with an animal on it. I know, I know. This totally makes me one of those teachers, but I'm okay with that. And today illustrates this love of animals. Lucky for you, if you want to join me in this habit, I have some cute options for you. Gap has several cute options. These are just three. They're all found here. I'm also wearing my much-loved chambray shirt and a denim skirt that I'm not a huge fan of but wear anyway. I'll be honest and say that having a denim skirt around is really convenient, so I often have one hanging in my closet even if it isn't the perfect fit. I couldn't find one like mine, but I did find a few options. This one from Old Navy is too short for work, I think, but it might be cute in the summer time. I can't get the picture to load on here, so you'll just have to check it out. And I found a couple of cute options from Nordstrom. I'm betting more will surface as spring comes around, so I'll keep looking and try to find more options. This one is a denim-ish material that I thought might look cute with a button-down shirt or something a bit dressier. As I looked closer at the second option, I realized the slit in the back was a bit ridiculous and they were marketing it as a "sexy" skirt, so I thought I'd share this Amazon find instead. It wasn't a particularly bad job; I just smell the distinct smell of waffle cones and am instantly transported back to post-high-school Laurel any time I put on a pair of khaki pants. I can't. I just can't. I know it's dumb. Don't try to use logical on me. I just can't do it. Anyway. My survival trick was to have a denim skirt on hand.
They're saying that this week is going to warm up, so this will be my last cozy sweater day for a bit. Okay--I'm heading to bed...maybe partly dreaming of a delayed opening. ![]() Since it's Friday, I thought I would share my outfit and talk about a few of my favorite things--layering and wedges...and tech-free back-up lesson plans. Today was one of those fun days when the teaching forces smiled on me. I had a lesson planned and the slideshow created on Drive, and then, as I was getting ready, I thought, "Wait! No! I want to do this other thing!" And as I was drying my hair, I planned out something completely different that I thought would do a better job of getting my students thinking about the complex relationships in the book. The good news is that this new lesson plan only required butcher paper, markers and a quick sketch on the board. When I got to school and realized that, because of the delayed opening we would only have about 45 minutes per class and, because of the power outage that had happened that morning we didn't have internet, I was really glad I had reworked my lesson. As a teacher, it seems that at least once a year, a force beyond your control completely screws up your brilliant lesson. Sometimes it's the internet, sometimes it's the copiers, sometimes it's a fire drill. But just know it's going to happen, and that's okay. But also, know that it's okay to go low tech--group work with butcher paper isn't a bad lesson. Giving kids index cards and having them write down things they want to talk about from the book isn't a bad idea. Having kids take time to find a meaningful passage from the reading and having them share/discuss isn't an unproductive day. If anything has been made clear to me through 10+years of teaching, it's that it really helps to have a few structures that you can fall back on even if everything you were planning falls apart...or if you just feel like your students need a day to put their interests in the center of the lesson. And, as luck would have it, my "Hey! Wait a minute!" lesson went really well, gave me a quick assessment on how well my students are analyzing the characters in the book, and gave me some important insight into what I want to discuss in depth next class period. It doesn't always work out that well, but today it did. So I'm taking the little victory. Along with my love of a good butcher paper in groups lesson, I also wore two of my favorite style choices today: wedges and layers. I love, maybe more than I should, a collared shirt under a sweater. I HATE putting on those layers, but once they're on and the shuffling of collars and cuffs and shirt tails is all done, I like how cozy it is, and I like the way it looks. I will say that I'm careful about what I pair those layers with. I typically do skinny jeans and a girly shoe just because I'm still trying to overcome the ghosts of bad fashion past in that I wore WAY TOO many sweatshirts with turtlenecks and baggy jeans when I was a kid, so any time I wear a bulky sweater with a shirt underneath I'm super aware of wanting the rest of my outfit to be as far from my terrible childhood fashion sense as possible. ![]() Today's outfit is brought to you by my attempt to buy a black and white flannel shirt and then realizing instantly that the shirt was navy, and realizing after looking at the shirt in multiple lights and comparing it to multiple other things, that the shirt is also a light cream. This meant I grabbed the first navy sweater I found in my closet that didn't have white in it. And that's how an outfit comes together in my world. This sweater was one that I bought maybe 3 or 4 years ago to go with a specific skirt, and now I have no idea which skirt that is. How sad, I guess. And it actually looks kinda awful on my body type when I wear it by itself, so the collard shirt gives it a less frumpy look. Either way, here are a few options for sweaters and shirts you might want to layer. Here's the link to the flannel--it comes in lots 'o colors. And here and here are the links to the sweaters. ![]() So, my other favorite thing is to pair the layers with fitted jeans and wedges. Maybe I have weird feet, but, for me, wedges offer me the best chance of having happy feet all day while wearing shoes that make me feel a bit more dressed up. Somehow, in my mind, if I'm wearing heels of any form, I feel more dressed up. These wedges are a few years old, and I feel like a real grown-up every time I wear them, so I wear them pretty often. I couldn't find an exact match, so I'm linking to approximately a million options in the hopes that if you are looking for some comfy winter shoes, you might find a great pair here. In order of appearance, here is a pair from Lucky. Then here's an option from TOMS. Then there's this pair from Franco Sarto. And here's one from Ralph Lauren. And here's one from Crown Vintage. And here's a last option from Carlos. The jeans are from Lucky, and I'm still deciding how I feel about them. I really like the color and the detail and the way they look, but I'm realizing that I'm not sure Lucky makes jeans for people with my proportions. It seems that their target audience might have thinner legs and a bit less in the backside. But I'm hoping I'm wrong, because I really like their stuff. Either way, I like this pair I got SUPER on sale. I still like the ones from Gap best of all, but I wanted the jeans to be more fitted to balance out the bulk of the layers on top. So there you have it.
Okay--I'm off to bed in the hopes of getting up early and being a responsible gym member. Today was our first day back with students, and it definitely felt like it. There are two kinds of "back to school" students: the ones that are super excited to be there, and the ones that couldn't fall asleep last night because they kept weird hours over break (and are now not so happy to be there). My classes were about half and half. There was definitely a "Bueller, Bueller" element to my witty banter today, and I'm sure it had nothing to do with my jokes. I've been thinking that on Wednesdays it might be fun to post some pictures of women whose style I admire. And I'd love for this to be mainly people I know, but today being the first day back, I'm just going with someone that I wish existed. The last few days, I've been watching Madame Secretary. And I want to find my own Henry McCord and be besties with Elizabeth. I love everything about the show, and more than that, I love Tea Leoni's wardrobe. I love a pencil skirt and a button-down shirt. I just think it always looks so office-appropriate while still being rather feminine. Just look at how awesome she looks. I would steal her wardrobe in a heartbeat. I think watching so many episodes over the last few days, I was inspired to jump back into school with a pencil skirt of my own. ![]() I love the pencil skirts from J. Crew Factory. I'm sharing the link to the wool version, but they are mostly out of stock and the cotton versions are now available. They come out every season (in the appropriate fabric) and in new colors. They fit well and go with anything. I've had fun pairing this green one with different shirts and sweaters, and since today felt like it needed some whimsy, I paired it with a polka dot shirt. I'm including the picture of the skirt because I like that the model is wearing my favorite combo and is even wearing my favorite jewelry option--multiple bracelets. It's my dream outfit! I thought about wearing boots since it's so cold, but I ended up putting on some heels instead. These are really comfortable. At the end of the day, I actually stopped and thought, "My feet are pretty happy. How strange!" I'm sad to say that I couldn't find my exact pair because they are a few years old, but here are some cute alternatives: Here's one option. And here's another. And finally, here's the link to the shirt. The only downside of the shirt is that it's polyester so it gets a bit static-y this time of year. But I feel like this time of year, static is just part of the game. Which reminds me that I need to pick up some Static Guard! Here's hoping it either warms up or snows. As my students and I agree, there's no point in having cold weather if it's not going to snow! And snow on the weekend is just wrong. The only appropriate snow is week day, snow day snow.
